Raymond “Red Rider” Eugene Miller, 70, of Michigan City, Ind. passed away peacefully Monday, April 13, 2020 at Franciscan Health Hospital, Michigan City.
He was born Aug. 3, 1949 in Tiptonville, Tenn. to Richard and Elsie (Martin) Miller. Ray was raised by his uncle, Charles Miller, after his parents’ passing.
On June 19, 1987 in Michigan City he married, Anna Marie (Childers) Miller, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Richard D. Miller of Galien, Mich. and Kathleen (Anthony) Gragido of La Porte, Ind.; three siblings, Richard (Cynthia) Miller of Portage, Mich., Claude Miller of Michigan City and Viola (Robert) Ithal of New Ulm, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Nathan Gragido and Nicholas Gragido.
Preceding in death were his parents and his uncle, Charles Miller.
Ray honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was a lifetime member and past Commander of D.A.V. Chapter #23. Ray was a proud and dedicated member of D.A.V. for over 25 years, serving in many different offices. He was also a member of American Legion Post 37 and 40 & 8. Ray retired from ArcelorMittal after 40 years of employment in the steel mill. He was happiest when on a motorcycle with his “knees in the breeze” or spending time with family in Tennessee. Ray loved his family and friends deeply. He will be greatly missed.
Cremation will take place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
