Frances “Fran” Arlene Rameier, 93, of La Porte, Ind. passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Miller’s Health and Rehab in La Porte.
She was born Nov. 18, 1926 in Walkerton, Ind., the daughter of Russell and Mildred (Balsbaugh) Bierly.
On Sept. 24, 1984 Fran married her husband of 38 years, Myron Rameier, and together they owned Ideal Farm Dairy in La Porte.
Fran was a member of the Salem Chapel United Methodist Church, Charm ‘n Chatter Box Extension Homemaker Club, Swanson Activity Center, and La Porte Camera & Travel Club. She was a volunteer at La Porte Hospital and was always on the go, doing day-trips with local groups.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Mellema of Nieuw Scheemda, Province of Groningen, Netherlands; sister, Lois Hagglund of La Porte; three grandchildren, Jennifer McSurley of La Porte, and Jurgen Mellema and Angela Mellema of the Netherlands; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Rodger Rameier; brothers, Norman and Russell Bierly; sisters, Donna Molden, Marsha Bierly and Ruth Stolte; and one great-grandchild.
Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. is handling the arrangements. The family will have a private viewing at the funeral home, followed by a private burial in Patton Cemetery. Due to the CORVID-19 concerns, the family will host a memorial service at a later date.
