David L. “Big D” Wellinski, 81, of La Porte, Ind. passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020.
David was born March 25, 1939 in Rolling Prairie, Ind. to Martin and Gertrude (Turcznski) Wellinski.
On Sept. 9, 1961 David married Patricia A. Zarr, who survives.
Also surviving are sons, Robert (Mary) Wellinski, Stephen Wellinski, and Gregory Wellinski; a sister, Mary Jo Mueller; brothers, Joseph Wellinski and James (Rosemary) Wells; grandchildren, Alan (Victoria) Wellinski, Matthew (Dare) Wellinski, Julia Wellinski, Michael Wellinski, John Paul Wellinski, Rebecca Wellinski, Addison Wellinski and Melody Wellinski; a great-granddaughter on the way; the family dog, Lady; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Angeline Baud, Margaret (Vernon) Boyce, Phyliss (Richard) Kratz and Norma Wellnicki; and a brother-in-law, Clay Mueller.
David graduated in 1957 from Rolling Prairie High School, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and sang in a Barbershop Quartet.
Cremation has taken place.
Due to the Covid-19 virus, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date.
