Mr. Thomas D. Ostrowski, 98, of New Carlisle, IN, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 7, 1915, in Chicago to Stanley and Agnes (Michalski) Ostrowski.
Thomas worked as a truck driver for General Rendering, retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. John Kanty Catholic Church. Thomas enjoyed woodcarving and was a diehard White Sox fan. He also enjoyed gardening and lawn work, and won the Terra Verde Award through LaPorte Savings Bank. Thomas enjoyed smoking his pipe while sitting outside in the sun with his dogs.
On Dec. 5, 1936, in Berwyn, IL, he married Grace H. (Luetgert) Ostrowski, who preceded him in death March 16, 2011.
Thomas was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Ostrowski; grandson, Daniel; and two sisters, Adeline and Connie.
He is survived by his son, Terrance (Jeong Sook) Ostrowski of Alsip, IL; three daughters, Patricia (John) Duignan of Chicago, Judi Grabowski of Warner Robbins, GA, and Maryanne Ostrowski of New Carlisle; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. A life celebration will be held at St. John Kanty Catholic Church, Rolling Prairie, IN, on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Michael Heimer officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Kanty Cemetery, Rolling Prairie.
