Shirley Berniece French, 82, of La Porte, Ind. passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020 at Hamilton Grove Communities, New Carlisle, Ind.
Shirley was born in Hastings, Mich. on June 21, 1937 to Kenneth James and BernieceWinifred (Chapman) Adams.
In 1956, she married Edward Farley, who preceded her in death. In 1982, Shirley married Robert G. French, who preceded her in death. Surviving are her children, Joan (“Greg”) Powell of La Porte, Debbie (Jerry) Marciniak of Valparaiso, Ind., Edward (Maureen) Farley of Lake Station, Ind., Ken Farley of Cedar Lake, Ind., and Bob (Heather) French of Valparaiso; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters Joann Boyer of Battle Creek, Mich. and Laura Diaz of Battle Creek, Mich.; sister-in-law Nancy Adams of Hastings, Mich.; brothers-in-law Tom Farley of Lakes of the Four Seasons, Ind., and George French of Calumet City, Ill.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother Chuck Adams; sister-in-law Loretta Kulczyk and brother-in-law Jack Farley.
Shirley was a homemaker. She enjoyed vacations, especially cruises, and camping. Most importantly, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Cremation will take place after the gathering. Burial will take place privately at Oakland Memory Lanes Cemetery, Dolton, Ill.
