Marilyn Mc Whirter Thompson, 69, of La Porte, IN, peacefully passed away on Oct. 2, 2019, following complications from her hip surgery.
She was born July 23, 1950, in Chicago, IL, to James and Barbara (Flett) Mc Whirter.
Marilyn was a retired Family Therapist. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Oklahoma. Marilyn went on to earn a Master’s Degree from both the University of Oklahoma and the University of Nebraska. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, La Porte. Marilyn enjoyed being with family and friends, whether it was family gatherings, book club, card club, helping her sorority sisters, at church, or at the dog park. She enjoyed cooking and was amazing at it. Marilyn’s very favorite thing was going out to enjoy a delicious dessert with friends or family. She had a sweet tooth almost as big as her sweet heart.
She is survived by her son, Eric Clark Thompson of Rhode Island; brother, William (Sandii) Mc Whirter of La Porte, sister, Bonnie (Bill) Scott of La Porte, brother, James Mc Whirter of La Porte, and sister, Susan (Mike) Lee of La Porte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Amy Lyn Thompson.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home, La Porte. The family will hold a Celebration Of Life gathering at the Swanson Activity Center, 910 State St., La Porte, on Oct. 26 from 1-4 p.m.
