James Weiss, 1924-2018

James F. Weiss, 94, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018.

He was born March 22, 1924, in LaPorte to Frederick and Frances (Lewandowski) Weiss.

On May 25, 1946, in LaPorte, James married Beverly L. Olson, who preceded him in death on July 8, 2012.

James leaves behind two daughters, Linda (Bill) Wobio of Clermont, FL, and Jan Weiss of Mishawaka, IN; four grandchildren, Tom Wobio, Kelly Wobio, Emily (Jason) Weaver and Blair Whorwell; two great-grandsons, Benjamin Wakeman and Samuel Wobio; a great-granddaughter, Payton Eisele; three step-great-grandchildren, Damon, Brody and Shane; a sister, Betty Cramer; several nieces; and extended family Dennis, Luann and Kent Whorwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister, Aileen Schirr.

James was a Superintendent of Central Stores for NIPSCO for 42 years. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, where he served on the funeral committee and was an usher; American Legion 83, and Knights of Columbus. James served his country during World War II in the United States Army’s 96th Infantry Division, and was awarded two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. CST Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. CST Thursday, Dec. 27, at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte. Family and friends may visit one hour prior at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Ian Williams will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

The family would like to thank Edith, Julie, and the staff at Wedgewood Pines Senior Care for their special care of James.
