Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling the arrangements for Dr. Kenneth B. Moberg, 76, of LaPorte, Indiana, who passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, at VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
He was born July 31, 1942, in Gary, Indiana, the son of Carl Moberg and Marcia (Basarab) Moberg.
Kenneth held a Ph.D as Professor of Economics and taught at the University of Notre Dame, among other universities, throughout his career in education before retiring in 2011. Kenneth volunteered for Stepping Stone Women’s shelter in Michigan City. In his spare time enjoyed reading and collecting books, mainly in economics.
On November 1, 2015, in LaPorte, Indiana, he married Arlene (Schmidt) Nelson, who survives in LaPorte, Indiana.
He is also survived by his son, Matthew (Kimberly) Moberg of Columbus, OH; daughter, Amy Moberg of Portage, IN; two stepsons, Mark (Linda) Nelson of LaPorte, IN, and Matthew (Joey) Nelson of LaPorte, IN; sister, Carla (Daniel) Coffman of Chesterton, IN; 13 grandchildren, Evelyn Moberg, Dominic Moberg, Alyssa Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Danielle Wiesner, Faith Wiesner, Hannah Hawkins, Landon Nelson, Ian Nelson, Andrew Nelson, Avery Rose Nelson, Bryson McKeehan, and Brodyn McKeehan; niece, Lauren Coffman; nephew, John (Lori) Coffman; and three cousins, Peggy Moberg, Tom (Mary) Moberg and Jack Basarab.
Kenneth was preceded in death by both of his parents; his first wife, Ann Carol Moberg; and his cousin, Larry Moberg.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Friday, November 16, from 4 to 8 p.m.; and at Hanna United Methodist Church, 101 W. Hopper St. Hanna, Indiana, on Saturday, November 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Hanna United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 17, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Denton officiating. Interment will follow at Hanna Cemetery, Hanna, Indiana.
