Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte, is handling the arrangements for Robert Harold Jonas, 57, of LaPorte, Indiana, who passed away Friday, May 25, 2018.
Robert was born June 2, 1960, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Robert Quinn and Sandra (Larson) Jonas.
He is survived by his mother, Sandra Kay (Larson) Jonas; two uncles, Ronald Charles (Elena) Larson of LaPorte and Jerry Wallace of LaPorte; and three aunts, Karon Lee (John) Little of Carrollton, Texas, Sharon Lee Parker of Empire, Alabama, and Marcia Jonas Johnson of LaPorte.
Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert T. and Helen Jonas, Harold Charles Larson and Lucille (Ribordy) Larson-York; step-grandfather, Charles York; a brother, Larry Jonas; and an aunt, Marlene Wallace.
Robert attended Boston Junior High School and graduated from LaPorte High School in 1978. In 1981 he graduated with honors from Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyoming. He started his career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he lived until 1993. He had to move back to LaPorte to be closer to his family after a serious illness. He was a Red Coat Volunteer at LaPorte Hospital during his recovery. He also worked part time as a maintenance mechanic at a local dairy farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed working with wood and in time became a self-taught accomplished wood crafter.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at the funeral home. Reverend Ian Williams will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Salvation Army, or to the charity of donor’s choice.
