Jose Luis Martinez, 48, of LaPorte, died peacefully Friday, April 28, 2017, at his home.
He was born Aug. 7, 1968, in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, to Martin and Reyna Avendaño (Ortiz) Martinez.
Jose worked as a welder. He enjoyed woodworking, soccer and spending time with his brother.
On June 30, 2006 in Markham, IL, he married Maria Alejandra Castro, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Natalia Martinez, Celeste Segura and Maximiliano Hernandez, all of LaPorte; his mother, Reyna Avendaño of Mexico; brother, Juan Martinez of LaPorte; and uncle, Estevon Avendaño of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Martinez; grandmother, Librada Ortiz Lozano; and grandfather, Manuel Avendaño Hernandez.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. Visitation will be Monday, May 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service. Cremation will follow the service.
