Mr. Noble G. “Pete” Stahl, 84, of LaPorte, died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Miami County, IN, to Joel and Gertrude (Smith) Stahl and had lived in the LaPorte area since 1967.
Mr. Stahl retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after 36 years as a clerk. He was a graduate of Macy High School, Macy, IN. Noble served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a LaPorte VFW member. He was an avid reader.
On Sept. 24, 1954, in Denver, IN, he married Alvena Yoder, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Judith (Casey) Arndt of LaPorte, Patricia Stahl of Libertyville, IL, and JoAnn (Brian) Griffin of Grand Haven, MI; three sons, James (Cheri) Stahl of LaPorte, Thomas (Alison) Stahl of Mt. Prospect, IL, and Michael (Diane) Stahl of Aspen Park, CO; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa, Maggie, Michael, Nicole, and Nathan Stahl, Ashley Arndt, and Christopher and Alexander Thompson; one sister, Opal Pontius of Rochester, IN; one brother, Wayne (Barb) Stahl of Chuckey, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bertha Mae Huff; and two brothers, Raymond and Richard Stahl.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Dan McDonald officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Denver, IN.
