Howard “Jack” Lewis Alward Jr., 79, of LaPorte, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at his home.
He was born Nov. 12, 1937, in South Bend, IN, to Howard and Elizabeth (Kushtow) Alward.
Jack served his country honorably as a Corporal in the U.S. Marines. He was a sheet metal worker with the Sheet Metal Union. He was a member of First Church of God. Jack enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, and making toys for thousands of children.
On May 11, 1968, in Florida, he married Carol Wolfenbarger, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Dawn (Mike), Jack (Patti), Ron (Chris), Deborah, Jennifer (Kevin), Melody (John), and Eric (Jessica); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, James (Bess) and Sarah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jacob Andrews; and sister, Patty Calvin.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at First Church of God, LaPorte, with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating. Military honors will be conducted during the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1893, Memphis, TN 8101-9950.
