Walter Louis Arndt, 92, of LaPorte, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn, IL.
He was born March 28, 1924, in LaPorte to Walter and Hattie (Edwards) Arndt.
Walter served honorably in the U.S. Navy, having participated in five major battles in the Pacific Theater on the USS Crowley DE303 Destroyer. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder. He was also a charter member at Whirlpool, retiring after 35 years of service.
On June 4, 1949, in LaPorte, he married Gloria Jean Steinke, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Dennis (Janice) Arndt of Manitou, KY, Brad (Suzy) Arndt of Austin, TX, and Corinne (Eric) Goodson of LaPorte; grandchildren, Rebecca Arndt of Manitou, KY, Aaron (Kaitlin) Arndt of Dallas, TX, Jennifer (Brad) Shafer of Austin, TX, Rev. Andrew (Kimberly) Arndt of Tell City, IN, Ashley (Shawn) Fitzpatrick of Greenwood, IN, and Alexander (Kimberly) Keim of Noblesville, IN; and great-grandchildren, Gray, Julia, Sophia, and one expected in February.
Walter was preceded in death by his sisters, Mae Regnier and Betty Bridges; and brothers, Richard, Frederick and John “Jack” Arndt.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, LaPorte. Visitation will be at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
