Mrs. Wilma M. Marsh, 98, of LaPorte, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Oak Woods Manor in LaPorte.
She was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Kingsbury, IN, to John Jacob Sigel and Eva (Bluhm) Sigel.
Wilma worked in food service for several years. She ran Wilma’s Cafe’ and the food line at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant. Wilma managed the family farm for 60 years. She was a member of Tracy United Methodist Church, and was a UMYF counselor and choir director. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, Farm Bureau, Master Gardeners and Extension Homemakers.
On Sept. 26, 1946, in Tracy United Methodist Church, she married Paul Bryant Marsh, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1955.
Wilma was also preceded in death by her two stepdaughters, Janet Bales and Betty McIntosh; grandchild, Jeff Bales; brother, Joseph A. Sigel; and sister, Florence E. Ault.
She is survived by her two sons, Paul J. (Gail M.) Marsh and John W. (Debra) Marsh; 11 grandchildren, P. Bryant Marsh II, Jody M. Warner, Mindy J. (Jason) Heidel, Jenny A. (Andrew) Minich, Laurie B. (Derek) Frazier, Katie M. Marsh, Todd (Sherri) Bales, Lisa (J.T.) Rieves, Greg Bales, Dean (Andrea) McIntosh, and Shari (Tim) Wagner; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephew, Barb Hoskins, Bev Gil and Berdell Bales; and special friend and caregiver, Lita Cernel.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Thursday, Jan. 5, from 3 to 7 p.m., and at Tracy United Methodist Church on Friday, Jan. 6, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A life celebration will be held at the church Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Ann Dill officiating. Interment will follow at Kingsbury Cemetery.
