Barbara Ann Halter, 85, of LaPorte, and formerly of Rolling Prairie, IN, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, in her home.
She was born Dec. 20, 1931, in LaPorte to Grace (Seeger) Lidgard and was raised mainly in LaPorte by her mother and stepfather, Woodrow “Woody” Harness, the only dad she ever knew and loved.
Barb was a homemaker until her children were older. Later, she worked for 20 years in the gift shop and the convenience store in the Wilbur Shaw Plaza on the Indiana Toll Road until she retired. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte.
On Jan. 6, 1951, in LaPorte, she married the love of her life, Bill Halter, who preceded her in death Sept. 2, 2011. They were married for 60 years and resided in Rolling Prairie throughout their marriage.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, Grace and Woodrow Harness, and son, Randy Halter.
Surviving are her children, Jeff (Cathy) Halter of North Liberty, IN, and Tammy (Kevin) Smith of Rolling Prairie; sister, Jackie (Gary) Wirebaugh of Rolling Prairie; brother, Jack (Suzanne) Harness of Neenah, WI; five grandchildren, Sam Halter, Mark and David Halter, and Zachary and Skye Smith; great-grandson, Luke Halter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte. Burial will take place at Rolling Prairie Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church, 102 G St., LaPorte, IN 46350, in memory of Barbara Ann Halter.
